Supergirl Season 4 Finale: 9 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Quest For Peace'

6. Brainy's Character Arc Comes Full Circle

There was something oddly satisfying about watching the recently-turned-emotionless Brainiac-5 break down in the midst of a deadly weapon launch - not because he was suffering, but because of who was making him suffer.

Brainy's character development has played quite the significant role this season, as the 12th-level intellect began to find himself identifying more with the human side of his personality (as opposed to the technological aspect). A big part of this change stemmed from his growing feelings for Nia Nal, whom he was supposed to declare his love to in last week's episode - which is why the sudden resetting of his systems caught viewers off-guard.

That, however, wasn't enough to keep his feelings at bay as, despite his new robotic outlook on life, the thought of losing Nia ended up rebooting his system altogether, allowing his humanity to return to the forefront.

"I love you!" he shouted to Nia - a sentiment that undoubtedly incited a lot of cheers from fans who were waiting far too long for him to do so. While this confirms that his sudden re-programming in last week's episode was nothing more than a one-and-done obstacle to drag the pair's story out until the finale (and not a potential foreshadowing of the original Brainiac's arrival), it's forgivable considering that it allowed these two to come together.

Finally, the 'Brainia' ship is sailing. But it's not the only one...
