5. Alex and Kelly Make It Official

Kelly Olsen's midseason introduction was completely warranted, given that her brother had just been shot, but the reveal that actress Azie Tesfai would be promoted to a series regular in Season 5 caught quite a lot of people off-guard. Did the writers really plan on giving this intriguing and underdeveloped character more attention than we all initially anticipated?

The answer to that question quickly turned out to be 'yes' as, from the moment that she hit it off with Alex, it was clear that there was potential for a storyline there - and in the weeks that followed, the writers began to realise that potential as a series of life-changing events brought the pair closer.

After teasing fans for weeks, they finally pulled the trigger on this relationship as Kelly announced how she didn't want the recent weeks of craziness to end and Alex simply responded with a kiss.

It was undoubtedly a sweet moment that didn't get lost in all the madness and has given both of these great characters (and us, as viewers) a new journey to look forward to next season.
