When Helen Slater (Supergirl in the 1984 film of the same name) and Dean Cain (Superman in the Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman TV series) were cast in Supergirl, it didn't take fans long to guess that they would more than likely be playing Kara's adoptive parents. In a blink and you'll miss it moment, the trailer definitely appears to confirm that. One of the earliest versions of Supergirl was adopted by Fred and Edna Danvers in 1961 in the comics, becoming "Linda Lee Danvers". There's not really a lot of material there that the show can borrow from, so it appears as it is instead just using them as inspiration. How much of a role in the series they'll end up playing is also very much a mystery at this point.
