9. Superman's Shadow - Down
Speaking of gritty and grounded superheroes, hello Superman. We don't see Kal-El properly in the show, but his shadow hangs over it and the life of his cousin Kara. There are a lot of references to the Man of Steel throughout the pilot, and it isn't really for the best. While you probably can't make a proper Supergirl show without addressing the fact that the two are related, this could be done quite quickly and you can then move on from it. However, time and again the show goes back to referencing Superman, and how Kara isn't like him, or wants to be like him, or how much of a hero he is, to the point where you're sick of Superman without even seeing him. Hopefully now that it's got the pilot out of the way it can stand on its own two feet. While including subtle Easter eggs will be a nice way to please the fans, the constant on-the-nose references grow tiresome pretty quickly.
