Kara saves the plane while wearing her normal clothes, something not very superhero-y. Obviously, she needs to get a costume, and does so in a fun scene alongside her friend and potential love interest (he wishes, anyway) Winn Schott (who comics fans will know has a rather significant name). We first see her trying on the rather more revealing outfit above, which he's impressed with but thankfully she isn't, and then a covered-up version of the same, before adding the finishing touches such as the iconic 'S' (it doesn't stand for Super), and in a scene that reminded me a bit of The Incredibles, a cape. We'll no doubt see various iterations of the costume should the show last beyond it's first season, but this was as good a way as any of starting things off, and especially felt right for the tone of this series.
