Supergirl: 6 Ups And 4 Downs From The Pilot

10. Flight 237 - Up

After dealing with some fast setup about how Kara left Krypton and arrived on Earth, we're pretty quickly into the action. She's on a rather terrible blind date when news reports of a plane going down emerge, and when she realises that Alex, her surrogate sister, is onboard, she's off to help quick as a, er, Flash. We see her remembering how to fly, and then the thrilling moments where she's underneath the plane and stopping it from going down, all pleased with herself, only to then be faced by a bridge. Obviously it all works out ok, as we knew it would, but the sequence still plays out really well and does a very good job of establishing Kara Danvers as the hero. It's also nice that she takes a moment to seemingly bask in the glory, her face beaming due to the fact that she's just saved so many lives, which is often missing from the gritty and grounded superhero approach.
