Supergirl: 6 Ups And 4 Downs From The Pilot

7. Breakneck Pace - Down

Supergirl came racing out of the blocks, going at a breakneck speed (resisting to make another Flash comparison here...), and didn't really slow up for the majority of its 45-minute running time. While I liked the plane saving, that came about 10 minutes into the pilot episode. We'd barely met the character, and here she was flying about and being a hero already. Then it whizzes through her secret being spilled to pretty much everybody, Supergirl becoming a social media star and front page icon, some stuff with a specialised unit setup to combat alien threats, of which she is one apparently, and then her saving the day. Phew. She just about had time to stop and pick up a latte and a lettuce wrap for her boss, but apart from that it was non-stop. While this pace can be exciting at times, it's going to need to learn to slow things down if it wants to really have audiences invested in the story and the characters for a full season.
