Superman & Lois Review: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Pilot'
1. Continuity Crisis
Non-Arrowverse fans unsure of whether or not they should start Superman and Lois out of fear that they might not understand it can rest easy knowing that it's easily accessible for anyone who hasn't watched the previous shows. The premiere doesn't make any reference to the wider Arrowverse (in spite of the fact that it now exists on Earth-Prime with the rest of the shows) and this allows it to stand on its own two feet right out of the gate.
While that, no doubt, makes watching it easier for non-Arrowverse fans, it does make it a little more difficult for those who are familiar with The CW's umbrella of superhero shows. Though it would have been nice to hear at least one reference to Supergirl, the real issue is the fact that it treats the post-Crisis On Infinite Earths timeline as canon without any actual reference to the change. So, instead of hearing about how Lois and Clark had their baby son Jonathan on Argo (like we saw in Supergirl), we see how they had twin boys on Earth instead.
Again, this made it so much easier for those unfamiliar with the complicated storytelling of the Arrowverse to enjoy the show but it does create the odd head-scratching moment for those of us who have been keeping up to date with the previous shows.
Now, for the positives...
