Supernatural: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season One

7. Death

It's not often that you can list the living embodiment of Death as one of the best characters in a TV show, but this is Supernatural. First introduced in Season Five, Death was one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and one of the oldest and most powerful entities in the universe. It was even suggested that he may have been older than God. In his human form, Death took the guise of an older, slight gentleman who had a dry sense of humour and an intense otherworldly charm. It really did feel like there was an unknowable cosmic power lurking behind those eyes, which was enough to make any human feel insignificant in his presence.

From the beginning he had a complicated relationship with the Winchesters, and as with many other entities, he straddled the line between ally and antagonist. Given the enormity of his nature and power though, he barely registered them as anything of consequence, as he illustrated to Dean during their first meeting.

Over the years Death would help the boys several times, sometimes by choice, sometimes not so much. However, he always seemed to play along for his own reasons, even when the Winchesters used underhanded tactics against him. He always remained calm and even amused with the boys. This all added to the cold, unnerving charm that made him so believable as a primordial force. One couldn't help but feel mesmerised by Death everytime he appeared on screen, which endeared him to fans everywhere.
