Supernatural: 10 Biggest Fan-Service Moments
1. Fan Fiction
And here it is, the pinnacle of TV fan-service - an episode that was literally made as a love letter to the SPN Family. Airing as part of Season Ten, this was the show's 200th episode and the showrunners used this milestone to celebrate the loyal viewers who had supported the show for so long.
The story sees Sam and Dean taking a case at an all-girls high school, where a group of students are producing a stage musical based on the Supernatural books. Much like The Real Ghostbusters, Supernatural fans (or their in-universe stand-ins) take centre-stage, with Sam and Dean once again being bewildered and irritated by their antics. Dean is especially horrified when he discovers that some people "ship" him with Castiel.
Additionally, this episode delivers something that some viewers had been begging for for years: a musical episode. While not exactly what they were probably hoping for (none of the regular cast sing), the episode does have a great set of memorable songs; from the recap song, The Road So Far, to the sentimental A Single Man Tear.
Of course, it's the gut-wrenching choral rendition of the show's unofficial theme song, Carry on Wayward Son, that really steals the show.
Most importantly, though, is that by episode's end, Sam and Dean show a newfound appreciation for their devotees and what they do. It's a sweet sentiment that transcends the fourth wall, making it one of the greatest signs of love and appreciation that any fandom has ever received.
