Picking up right where Part A left off with Theo's pack is in tatters, having either defaulted to Scott's side or perished, Season 5B continues to test the pack's resilience.
Central villains, alongside Theo, The Dread Doctor's continue their arc from 5A but with the added threat of them trying to resurrect an ancient, long dead, werewolf called the Beast. Helpfully, Deputy Parrish (Ryan Kelley) is coming to terms with his Hellhound side, which just so happens to be powerful enough to fight this mega-wolf.
One stand out episode in this is The Maid of Gevaudan, for nothing more than the return of Crystal Reed as Allison's ancestor Marie-Jeanne. This reveal of the Beast's original identity is played against the pack's discovery of who the Beast is in modern-day. The modern Beast's identity presents an interesting moral dilemma for the pack, whilst Lydia being stuck inside Eichen House is a great opportunity for them to dive into her powers but could have been pushed even further.
The season overall amps up the tension, reminding the viewer they are not afraid to risk the characters lives. A few more twists could have really taken this into the top-rated seasons. However, for it's world-building and Lydia being a badass, it is thoroughly watchable.
