The Arrowverse: 10 Most Hated Supporting Characters

5. The Wells

Mon El Supergirl
The CW

It's a bit of a cheat here, but if the Flash can get away with cheaply using multiple Wells then so can I.

Cutting to the chase, there are only a couple of Wells that aren't stupid, fun-for-a-moment-or-two gimmicks: Harry Wells from Earth 2 (who might actually be dead now, its hard to keep track), and the original season one Harrison Wells who was actually the Reverse Flash. The other Wells', while occasionally charming, are easily the most annoying parts of each season of The Flash.

To be clear, this is not a knock against any of Tom Cavanagh's performances - that guy is great to watch. Rather it's just that the endless spiral of Wells from other Earths lost its charm and uniqueness as soon as team Flash began relying on their new Wells to instantly solve all their problems, instead of trying to help themselves.

Harrison Wells is smart, yes, but the show underplays how smart the rest of the team is by relying too much on a new Wells each season. From then on in, each new Wells has only been there because it's a staple of the show.

Take HR Wells from Earth 19, who pretended that he was a genius only for it to revealed that he's a dumb Wells. He then dies as a sacrificial lamb to save Iris West and no one has mentioned him since. Then there's that goddamn Sherloque Wells, the genius detective who deduces incorrectly the identity of Cicada, plus the only thing he did deduce was something that the viewers had known all season long. Also, the French Sherlock quips grew old real fast.

And next was Harrison Nash Wells, who's just Harrison Wells but he's Indiana Jones because... why not, I guess. The revolving door of Wells is annoying as it is, but the fact that they themselves are painfully annoying 2D caricatures is just sigh-inducing.

Michael Barnes hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
