The Book Of Boba Fett: 10 Things You Missed

The Book of Boba Fett
Walt Disney

Because Star Wars has tens of thousands of characters, you'd think it wouldn't need to introduce any more. But since it is a constantly expanding universe, new aliens and droids pops up all the time. Even though we saw a few familiar faces in the pilot episode of Boba Fett, we also witnessed a new creature called a sand ape. While marching through the desert, Boba was forced to battle this six-armed monstrosity. Luckily, he managed to kill the beast by strangling it with chains (as a nod to how Leia vanquished Jabba in Return of the Jedi).

Interestingly, this critter is based on the Green Martians from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom novels (which was adapted into another Disney property, John Carter). Both creatures live in a sandy habitat, have six limbs, and are covered in scaly, green skin.

Although it's common knowledge Frank Herbert's Dune inspired Star Wars, lesser people know George Lucas' work was also motivated by Burroughs' novels, especially John Carter of Mars. Considering the Barsoom stories gave Lucas the incentive to pursue his own sci-fi epic, it's surprising more Star Wars characters weren't inspired by Burroughs' tales.
