In A New Hope, the Rebels panic upon learning the Death Star's weakspot is only two metres wide. Luke Skywalker tries to reassure his comrades, saying, "I used to bull's-eye womp rats in my T-16 back home. They're not much bigger than two meters."

Even though this is one of many memorable lines in the movie, it left viewers with one burning question - What's a womp rat? For four decades, these rodents have been mentioned time and time again, and yet, we've never seen one. They've been referenced in Battlefront II, The Clone Wars, Galaxy of Heroes, The Mandalorian, Rise of Skywalker, and tons of novels. Even though Womp Rats showed up in video games like Infinity 3.0 and Super Star Wars, these appearances aren't considered canon.

But this year, the Womp Rat finally made its onscreen debut in The Book of Boba Fett. While Din performs a test flight around Beggar's Canyon in the fifth episode, there is a shot of a Womp Rat sunbathing on a rock. It may have taken nearly half a century but Womp Rats finally made a physical appearance in the Star Wars universe.
