The Boys: 10 Things Only True Fans Know About Homelander
1. His Childhood In The Comics Was Horrendous
Even though Homelander constantly plays up to his public persona as a virtuous hero throughout the series, we've see the duplicitous Supe perform inexcusable acts of evil. He burst the eardrums of a deaf guy to make a point, burned through the skull of the woman he claimed to love, and killed every passenger on a plane on a whim.
But because we saw Homelander's tragic upbringing, you can understand why he turned out as unstable as he did. Although his caretakers were never aggressive or violent towards him, he never experienced love as a child, giving him a dangerous complex.
As disturbing as his early life seemed in the show, it was worse in the comics. As soon as he was born, he killed the entire team of doctors and nurses that delivered him. The scientists were so terrified by this display of power, they kept him in check by strapping him to a nuclear bomb for 18 years! They were informed that the atomic bomb would detonate immediately, killing him and everyone in the area if Homelander started to act irrationally in any way.
With an upbringing like that, you can't exactly blame Homelander for turning out the way he did.
