The Boys: 10 Things Only True Fans Know About Homelander

8. Superman Wasn't The Only Person Who Inspired The Character

The Boys Homelander
Marvel Comics

Even though Homelander was created in a laboratory, his official backstory is that he's an alien who crash-landed on Earth as a baby and was raised by farmers. It goes without saying that Homelander's powers, persona, and fake origin are heavily based on Superman.

However, The Seven's leader has more similarities with another comic book character. In the beginning of Marvel Comics series, Supreme Power, an alien baby crash-landed on Earth and was taken in by a loving couple.

Hours after he was found, the US military located the alien and took him in for study. When they learned the infant had superstrength and the ability to fly, they brainwashed him, hoping to turn him into a perfect American soldier called Hyperion. Because he was raised like a lab rat, Hyperion became aggressive, killing animals out of frustration. Although he had been conditioned to believe he was a true superhero by the time he reached adulthood, he abandoned his responsibility when he discovers his alien heritage.

Even though it sounds like the two characters are cut from the same cloth, Hyperion is a lot more conflicted whether his actions are right or wrong while Homelander relishes his wicked nature without hesitation.
