Billy Butcher got involved in the superhero game after his wife was assaulted and presumably killed by Homelander. Hughie’s door to the world of the Boys was opened when A-Train ran through and killed Robin while delivering drugs. M.M. has a similarly painful backstory.

When he was a kid, Marvin saw almost his entire family ripped apart by the car Soldier Boy hurled through their home. The leader of Payback didn’t care what he had done, which was ruin the young boy’s life in more ways than one. This is what kick-started M.M.’s OCD. In his head, if he didn’t turn on the lights a certain number of times, Soldier Boy would come back.

He spent his life trapped with this thought, and in season three he came face to face with fears. He even tried to fight the supe on one occasion, something that was as dangerous as it was reckless. With Soldier Boy now seemingly out of the picture however, it raises the question of M.M’s personality.

Since the supe was the source of his condition, and the reason he does what he does, will he adapt or change in any way moving forward? He had more character development than anyone and was one of the highlights in all of season three, why should that stop in season four?
