Of all the main characters in The Boys, whether on the side of Vought, Butcher and the Boys, or anyone else, there has never been a character quite so mysterious as Black Noir. It took him until the show’s third season to even utter a word, and even this was in a flashback.

When Noir found out that Soldier Boy was back, thanks to what happened in Nicaragua back in 1984, he knew there was a target on his back. It was he, under the orders of Stan Edgar, that led the rebellion against Soldier Boy and sent him off to Russia.

While this was a huge revelation in itself, alone it likely wouldn’t have made this particular list. Instead, it was just how the information was portrayed that seemed like every fan watching was on some sort of drug trip.

Noir sat in an empty children’s themed restaurant and watched as his mind made up his cartoon animal friends. It was they who re-enacted the coup in their cartoon forms but with the characters’ real voices, and showed exactly how Soldier Boy destroyed Black Noir’s brain.
