The Boys: Every Episode Ranked Worst To Best
3. Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker (Season 2, Episode 7)
In many ways, Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker might just be the show's most shocking installment. For starters, there's Lamplighter, an old member of the Seven just introduced, who races with Hughie to save Starlight from imprisonment just to commit suicide in the Seven's conference room.
Then there's Stormfront, whose calls to fight the supe-terrorists causes a disillusioned citizen to kill an innocent man. And then, of course, there's Homelander, who continues to push his son to use his powers.
It's an episode that moves effortlessly from one shock twist to the next, never really slowing down but not once trying to force the drama or the violence. Lamplighter, for all his faults, proves increasingly tragic, and Stormfront slides her way into Ryan's life in hopes of manipulating him to realise just how strong he is. It's an uncomfortable watch, and seeing Hughie all alone in the Tower is tension at its finest, but it's also without question one of the show's most entertaining and adrenaline-fuelled episodes.
