The Boys Season 2: 10 Major New Details You Need To Know
6. A Billy Butcher Short Film Is On The Way As Well
The first season of The Boys ended on something of a cliffhanger with Billy Butcher finally finding his wife, and learning that he has a son...whose father just so happens to be Homelander. When this second batch of episodes arrives on Amazon, there will have been a time jump of some sort, and showrunner Eric Kripke has told Collider that will be explored in a short film.
"We are going to release a pretty substantial thing because we had a whole storyline in episode two," he explains. "It's not really spoiling anything to say that as season two begins Butcher is MIA and then shows up, and in episode two we originally had shot something that really revealed where he went and what his experiences were."
As for why that was cut, Kripke adds: "[It] ultimately didn't end up fitting that well into the episode because it made Butcher's story a lot less mysterious and intriguing and it kind of slowed down the rhythm a little bit, it was better to not know in that particular episode."
Those deleted scenes were compiled into a short film they've dubbed "Butcher," and while it won't be released the same week those three episodes go live, it's believed that it will follow shortly after because, as Kripke notes, "There's actually references in the show that you won't understand unless you see this thing because it was really tied into our plot. So that'll come out."
