The Boys Season 3: 10 Shocking Comic Book Moments That Must Happen

6. Soldier Boy's Audition

According to the propaganda of Vought America, Soldier Boy is the leader of another superhero group by the name of Payback who predates The Seven and fought for freedom during World War II. As it turns out, however, this is nothing more than a legacy title shared by a few heroes over the years, similar to how Marvel made use of the Captain America mantle.

This isn't the only similarity between the two heroes though, with Soldier Boy being given superhuman strength, expertise in hand-to-hand combat, insane shield-wielding skills, a dedication to freedom, and an innocent demeaner that prevents him from swearing.

But unlike Cap, the Soldier Boy we come to know is both cowardly and naïve, often running from danger and being manipulated into doing a number of horrible things to try and impress Homelander.

Nowhere is this weakness of his more apparent than where we see Homelander tricking Soldier Boy into sharing a bed with him. Convinced that this is nothing more than an audition that all members of The Seven have to go through, Soldier Boy gives it his all. Unsurprisingly enough, Homelander refuses to let him join The Seven, giving the reason that his performance just wasn't good enough.

Worse yet, we learn from the conversation that this wasn't the first time, and will definitely not be the last.
