The Boys Season 3 Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
2. Antony Starr Steals The Show
As phenomenal as everyone else is this season, though, no one holds a candle to the irreplaceable Antony Starr, who for the third season running continues to give one of the most fascinating performances on TV.
As Homelander, Starr's ability to come across as both genuinely terrifying and painfully pathetic is unmatched, painting the so-called "hero" as a perfect image of fragility, greed, and rage. Starr manages to make his truly insane, but still finds a way to find the broken human within the monster.
The most impressive thing about Starr's performance comes from his facial expressions, which in a single twitch capture every ounce of Homelander's terror, anger, and increasing insanity.
Everyone has missed out on major award recognition for their work in The Boys so far, but if the Emmys and Golden Globes know what's good for them, they should really be seeking Starr out for some nominations. It's a monumental achievement.
