The Boys Season 3 Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
3. The Flawless Ensemble Cast
Of course, none of this rich character development would be possible without the show's flawless ensemble, who each give their best performances yet in a season that constantly challenges them.
True standouts this time around include Karl Urban as a bitter, haunted Butcher, Erin Moriarty as a woman who sticks her middle finger up to a cruel, male-dominated world, and the consistently underrated Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, who spends this season followed by family tragedy and blinded by loss.
This season also introduces Supernatural's Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, a Captain America-like hero whose fame, sadism, and narcissistic tendencies are surpassed only by Homelander, and he's clearly having a great time playing a darkly amusing monster.
As great as the main cast are, though, a lot of credit deserves to go to show's more side-lined stars, who despite feeling out-of-the-loop still colour the season with absorbing performances impossible to hate.
Karen Fukuhara and Tomer Capon continue to be utterly heartrending as Kimiko and Frenchie, Chace Crawford's horribly slimy portrayal of The Deep remains an absolute masterclass in pitiful awkwardness, and Colby Minifie's hilarious portrayal of conflicted Vought boss Ashley steals the show whenever she's around.
It's a brilliant ensemble, and there should be no doubt The Boys is one of the best acted shows currently on-air.
