Undoubtedly the fan favourite to take over from Jon Stewart is Jessica Williams. And rightly so: like Trevor Noah, she's a relatively recent addition to The Daily Show's roster of correspondents, and at 25 is the youngest to join the cast in the history of the show. But in that short time, and with relatively less experience, she's already become one of the main reasons to tune in. Offering a perspective on current events that many of her older colleagues can't, along with first-hand experience as not only a woman but a black woman (two particular demographics who have not been having a great time in recent American politics and society), her segments have often gone viral, inspiring viewers both for their content and their jokes. Williams is really, really funny. Her star is rising, thanks to guest appearances in HBO comedy Girls and the aforementioned sharing of her segments through social media. She's a fresh voice, an incredibly talented, smart, insightful, and engaging performer. She's everything that Jon Stewart is and, to be honest, a bit more besides. Plus her appointment is already a forgone conclusion.
