The Defenders: 10 Reasons It's A Massive Disappointment

Daredevil is mostly excellent in The Defenders, but as with his second season, the thing that lets it all down is Elektra, who once more goes badly off track after a strong start.

The portrait of her as a Jason Bourne-like super-weapon bred for violence and Earth's doom is interesting, and there's something to admire in her relationship with Alexandra, but there's no humanist balance. She barely wrestles with the idea that she's been bred for such a purpose (while Danny is haunted by it), and it's a real shame that the more she's on-screen and her mysticism is washed away, the less entertaining and interesting she is.

Fundamentally, she's not written well - there's no Frankenstein versus the Monster subtext to her clash with Alexandra, so we don't ever get to know why she killed her, really. And the revelation that she does remember her past life but just sort of rejects it doesn't ring true either.
