The Defenders: 8 Major New Details Revealed By Marvel And Netflix

7. The Punisher Won't Bring R-Rated Violence To The MCU

Ever since it was revealed that Marvel had regained the rights to The Punisher, fans have been scratching their heads about how and where he could fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's always classically been depicted in an R-Rated way, and the gun toting vigilante shooting down criminals by the dozen doesn't exactly fit the tone of family friendly movies like Ant-Man and Captain America! Daredevil is perfect for him though, but don't expect lots of blood and exploding brain matter when Frank Castle arrives in Hell's Kitchen! Former Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight recently teased fans by claiming that Jon Bernthal's Punisher will be the Marvel version of the character fans have always wanted to see in live-action, but was quick to point out that they shouldn't expect the same level of bloody R-Rated violence which dominated his last movie, Punisher: War Zone. Instead, Daredevil will be sticking in that PG-16 area (which, with the parental guides, is a fine fit for Netflix), with a lot of implied violence and no massive blood splatters hitting the screen! That's really not that big a deal. Wilson Fisk crushing a man's head in a car door was just as harrowing and shocking in season one as it would have been if we'd seen his brain all over Wilson Fisk's shoes afterwards! So long as The Punisher still kills the criminals he targets, there's really no reason for anyone to get bent out of shape about this...
