The Defenders: 8 Major New Details Revealed By Marvel And Netflix

5. Purple Man Is Going To Be Very Complex

No doubt one of the best parts about Daredevil was Vincent D€™Onofrio's Wilson Fisk. He was an incredibly complex and interesting villain, and Jessica Jones is going to have to do a lot to top that. Luckily, her main foe is going to be a bad guy just as fascinating as The Kingpin - Jessica will be squaring off against David Tennant's Purple Man. In Brian Michael Bendis' very dark Alias series, he used his mind-controlling powers to force Jessica - then a young costumed superhero known as Jewel - to essentially be his slave (many fans even believe that he may have also raped her during this period despite the writer's claims to the contrary). Long story short, it's all pretty messed up, and it doesn't sound like the show will shy away from that. "To watch Jessica and Krysten go through the trials of what he€™s putting her through and then finding out the many-layered reasons as to why those things are happening, that€™s really the part of the show that makes it so intriguing, that makes it so compelling," says Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb. However, despite how dark things may get, don't be surprised to sometimes find yourself rooting for Purple Man in the same way you did The Kingpin: "One of the things that we€™re very proud of is there will be times when you€™re uncomfortably OK with what it is that Kilgrave is doing and maybe you shouldn€™t be," Loeb explains. "Then what Melissa does so elegantly is suddenly remind you, €˜Oh no, he€™s really a horrible person.€™"
