The Expanse: Ranking The Main Characters From Worst To Best
7. Fred Johnson
The military colonel born on Earth abandoned his home world and became an OPA faction leader on Tycho station. Fred Johnson was a mercurial character who you couldn't trust completely. His interactions with the crew of the Rocinante were broadly as allies but Holden never fully knew where he stood with Fred.
After committing atrocious war crimes for the U.N., Fred became more aligned and sympathetic to the views and the plight of the Belt. Managing to become a significant leader within the Belt as a born Earther is no easy feat and his commitment to the cause alienated him from Earth entirely.
Fred wanted to protect the Belt wherever he could, but unlike Marco Inaros he wanted to do so through peaceful means. He would often work with the U.N. and Mars if it meant bloodshed could be spared but he was rarely reached out to in the same way.
Chad L. Coleman brings the haunted background of Fred's past actions to the show in seamless fashion and always knew when to turn up the intensity. His betrayal and murder in Season Five orchestrated by Marco is one of the most well done and shocking deaths on the entire show. He will be missed in the final season.
