The Flash: 5 Stories Needed To Be Done Before The Series Ends
2. "The Flash & Green Lantern: The Brave & The Bold" Mini-Series
Hal Jordan has been Barry Allen's BFF since 1960. The two Silver-Age legends forged an interesting friendship because it was so unlikely. It is the differences between them that makes it work. This has never been explored better than in 1999's The Flash & Green Lantern: The Brave and The Bold. This 6 issue mini-series by Mark Waid, Tom Peyer, & Barry Kitson set a perfect road map for the TV show to follow in developing Hal as a recurring character.
Each issue of the series takes place years apart from each other so that we see their friendship evolve and occasionally struggle as they both change. It is a very real depiction of adult male friendships set against a fantastic comic book landscape of costumes, supervillians, and alien world camping.
Hal & Barry complement each other's duel identities. Barry Allen is organized and procedural as a police scientist similar to how Green Lantern operates as part of the Green Lantern Corps. However, in Green Lantern's off time he is a free spirit as Hal Jordan. This rings more true with Barry's alter-ego The Flash who runs where the wind takes him. They both have their free side along with their police officer mind set.
Even though Hal Jordan is good friends with both Barry & Green Arrow/Oliver Queen, he has yet to appear in either show. Both series have referenced Coast City and have had Green Lantern Easter eggs for so many years that it would be quite disappointing to not follow through.
