The Flash: Ranking Every Major Death Worst To Best

7. The Thinker/Clifford Devoe

This death was a strange one. Clifford Devoe, aka The Thinker, was one of the better villains in the entire television series and a breath of fresh air from the usual speedster antagonists. As his name suggests, the Thinker uses his mind to better the Fastest Man Alive, which challenges the entire structure of the show. While he was a great villain, his demise was odd because he somehow had several deaths and none at all.

It's a bit unclear whether or not Clifford experiences death each time he transfers his consciousness into another body, but it is clear that the original owner of the body is gone. In a manner of speaking, Devoe dies several times, only to be reborn in another body. So audiences weren't sure if the Thinker had met his true end when the Elongated Man, Ralph Dibney, returned at the end of season four. When Devoe took over Ralph's body, fans thought Dibney's story was over, and it seemed unlikely that the Flash would ever be able to stop the Thinker.

Clifford is essentially defeated in his mind, but in the Elongated Man's body, maybe? We assume he's dead, but it's not clear. Does he still exist somewhere in Ralph's mind, the way the Elongated Man survived while Clifford had control of his body? The death is a little too vague for such a powerful villain, leaving some fans wanting a more explicit ending.
