What is there to say about H.R. Wells? The man was introduced as an enigma that initially left fans rather confused and a little disappointed because, well, he wasn't up to the standard of his predecessors. But what we didn't know at the time was that this was the writers' intentions, as they purposely wrote him as a pale imitation of the previous Wells in a bid to force unfavourable comparisons - comparisons that ultimately revealed his secrets.

Not the villain many of us feared he would be nor the genius he pretended to be, H.R. was simply an enthusiastic life-loving novelist who was on the run from an Earth-19 bounty hunter. However, what he lacked in scientific knowledge, he made up for in heart - as he was such a lovable personality that made us all root for him. And though he wasn't a technical genius, he ultimately proved himself to be every bit as clever as his predecessors when he figured out the one way to do what nobody else could: Save Iris.

A constant bright spot in an otherwise dark season, H.R. was the heart and soul of the show for the year that he was on it and his sacrifice left it much worse off. However, in doing so, he became the one thing that many never thought he would be: A hero.
