The Flash Season 3: 10 Things You Might've Missed In 'Flashpoint'

2. Pilot Episode Callbacks

The Flash Joe West
The CW

With the rebooting of the timeline, this was very much an episode where The Flash reset itself – in effect, starting the show all over again. To really make this plain, the climax of the episode heavily recalled that of the pilot from all the way back in season one.

First of all, The Rival uses his speed powers to whip up some deadly twisters (as in the movie, not the board game). This recalls metahuman Clyde Mardon’s technique in fighting Barry in the pilot. Just to nod us in that direction further, Cisco – sorry, Mr Ramon – comments that the guy must be some sort of “Weather Wizard”, harking back to the name he originally gave Mardon’s brother Mark later in the same season.

To complete the recreation of the pilot’s climax, Joe then appears to save The Flash and shoots The Rival dead. He also finds out that Barry is the speedster at this point, as in the pilot episode.
