The Flash Season 5: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'King Shark Vs. Gorilla Grodd'

1. It's A Lot Of Fun

When The Flash first began, it was praised for its light-hearted and fun approach that restored the light in the grim superhero genre. Over the years, it strayed from that as the writers tackled darker storylines with greater consequences. However, as we have seen with this season's Cicada storyline, that isn't always a good thing and can, unfortunately, hinder it in the long run.

However, by taking a break from its main narrative, The Flash managed to reignite that fire inside of it that has been absent for far too long. Much like last season's 'Enter Flashtime', 'King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd' was like that sanctuary away from all of the current madness that just focused on the basics of what made the show great in the first place and, as a result, it made for an incredibly enjoyable adventure.

Though the episode did have some serious themes running throughout, it all culminated in the most incredible yet ridiculous fashion. In spite of the drama, the moral questions and Cicada himself, this thematically-heavy installment built towards a good old-fashioned barn burner between two CGI monsters that was everything we never knew we needed out of life. After all, where else are you going to see a telepathic gorilla with a superiority complex wrestling a giant shark atop a crane in the rain?

Now, for the negatives...
