The Flash Season 5 Finale: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Legacy'

Downs...

2. She Hears Voices In Her Head (And So Does Everyone Else)

The Flash Cicada Grace Orlin
The CW

As the first act of the episode focused on wrapping up the Cicada storyline, viewers watched as the evil adult version of Grace Gibbons (a.k.a. "She-cada") came up with a new mind-boggling way to administer the metahuman virus - going back to the night of the particle accelerator explosion.

How did she come up with such a terrifying plan? Well, because her uncle Orlin told her... you know, the same uncle Orlin that she killed weeks ago? Yeah, well, apparently she sees him now (and hears his voice in her head) and, together, the pair come up with some dastardly detailed ways to kill metas.

What the writers were attempting to do here wasn't just clear, it was really obvious. It's hard enough for any film or TV show to justify a character talking to themselves, but to create a figment of their imagination and then have them engage in a full-scale conversation with them for no reason other than to relay information (that could have been relayed another way) is highly-expositional.

As a result, this scene stood out for all the wrong reasons.
