The Flash Season 5 Premiere: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Nora'
1. Wally's Departure
As much as it hurts to say this, there is no place for Wally West on The Flash. That's not a reflection on the character, it's a reflection on how underappreciated he was on his own show.
Though he started out with a purpose, he stopped developing the moment that he became Kid Flash. The writers eventually gave up and decided to move him to sister-show DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and that finally allowed him to shine. Unfortunately, it seems like that was only temporary.
It was wonderful to see the character back on The Flash in the Season 5 premiere and it was great to see him featured in quite a prominent role. But his decision in the episode's closing moments to "go off and find himself" will see him leaving the show one more time. It may seem like he is returning to the Waverider to join the Legends on another time-travelling mission, but that unfortunately won't be the case - at least not long-term anyway. Actor Keiynan Lonsdale has departed both shows as a series regular, but will continue to feature in a recurring role.
It's sad to see Wally go when he was finally coming into his own. He really did deserve a lot more attention because, aside from the fact that he's one of the most important Flash characters, Lonsdale has always done a great job in the role.
