The Flash Season 6 Finale Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Success Is Assured'
Ups...
5. It Still Felt Like A Finale
'Success Is Assured' was never intended to serve as the sixth season's finale. Oddly enough, it ended up playing its newly-cast role incredibly well.
It's hard to deny that the episode felt like a finale because, for the most part, that's exactly what it felt like.
Was the first act a little long? Sure. Could there have been more of a finality about it? Absolutely. And yet all of those things could never have been changed because, again, this wasn't supposed to be the finale.
However, with Eva's return to the world and her impending mission to kill Joseph, the stakes were increased rather well, bringing the gang together in order to protect him. And with the return of both Sue and the Black Hole warriors, it felt like everything was beginning to come together.
Carver's death, Caitlin's departure, Joe's return and Iris' sudden disappearance from the Mirrorverse; 'Success Is Assured' may not have been designed as a finale, but it functioned perfectly as one, leaving more than enough compelling question marks over the show to reel us back in next season.
Given the circumstances, it shouldn't have worked; but, oh boy, it did.
