The Flash Season 7: 9 Theories On The Identity Of The New Big Bad

Eddie Thawne's death in the first season of The Flash remains one of the show's most heartbreaking moments, because a man terrified of making no difference in the world ended up making more of an impact than anyone else ever could have. Not only did he die a hero, he took out his descendant, the Reverse-Flash, in the process (though the villain would eventually find multiple ways to resurface), saving everyone he loved.

Ever since, however, fans have been hoping that Eddie will return someday... and, believe it or not, there is one pretty plausible fan theory as to how that could happen.

Though Eddie Thawne doesn't exist in the comics, there is a Malcolm Thawne - Barry Allen's twin brother who is wrongfully given to the Thawnes on the night he is born because the doctor told Nora Allen that he was stillborn. And thus, Malcolm lives a life full of corruption and is disgusted when he learns that his brother had the life he always wanted. Vowing to take it from him, he becomes Cobalt Blue.

As The Flash is no stranger to coming up with its own unique interpretations of the comic book narrative, Eddie could always return as the villain for the same reasons that Malcolm took up the mantle in the comics, as he could find himself enraged that Barry ultimately married the woman he was hoping to: Iris West.

The Season 7 synopsis teases the arrival of a threat that could tear Barry and Iris' marriage apart, so the question is: Is now finally the time for Cobalt Blue to arrive?
