6. What Happened With Luke's Wife?
We learned in Season 1 that, before Gilead, June's relationship with Luke — the father of her daughter, Hannah — first began while Luke was still married to Annie. But, despite this, the pair's relationship blossomed and Luke separated from Annie to be with June.
This episode took viewers back to the early days of their relationship through a series of flashbacks. In one particular scene, Annie showed up at June's pilates class and begged her to back off Luke. June was unable to comply as it was later revealed she had already moved in with him at the point. But there was animosity in Annie's request, and she started hurling vile insults at June.
Another flashback saw Luke and June out for coffee with Hannah, but things grew interesting when June discovered Annie in the queue. They stared each other out, before Annie exited the cafe. It was an incredibly unsettling scene, and it raises the question if this was the last time our protagonist interacted with Annie.
