The Handmaid's Tale Season 2: 5 Ups And 1 Down From 'Postpartum'
2. Eden & Isaac's Death
Gilead is a horrible place - that's a fact we learned a long time ago. From the continuous rape of the handmaids, to the penalties that one faces for betraying the law, the dystopian environment has certainly proved to be a dangerous world to live in. And yet, somehow, the unforgiving nature of this brave new world still had the ability to shock us.
Eden and Isaac ran away so that they could be together, but they didn't get very far and were brought back to Gilead to face the music. The horrifying death that the young woman and her lover were forced to endure was so upsetting that it even had the almighty Serena Waterford in floods of tears. The 15-year-old girl was drowned because she fell in love - this was her only crime. And yet, according to Gilead law, this punishment is God's wishes. No. You're crying.
What's more, having the other character's witness Eden's demise furthered their own stories substantially. It made Serena see sense, so she let June sit with her baby. And we know that this incident will only make June want to escape from this world even more.
