1. The Conflict

Conflict lurks in every corner of The Waterford household in any given episode of The Handmaid's Tale, but it was specifically well done during Postpartum. Serena didn't want June near the baby, which not only created conflict between the two women, but also between Serena and her husband, proving that their marriage isn't as solid as they'd like it to be.

But perhaps the best form of conflict is the internal struggle that Serena had to deal with. As 'her' baby wouldn't stop crying, the mistress of the Waterford household found herself facing a dilemma: let the baby continue to cry, or ease the child's suffering by allowing June to help out with breastfeeding. Since we know how Serena feels about June, this was a specifically tough decision for her make, but in the end she stopped wrestling and allowed the handmaid to breastfeed the child.

June was also wary of seeing her baby, for fear that she might not be able to part with her.
