The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 Finale: 7 Ups & 1 Down From 'The Word'
4. Adam Taylor's Magnificent Score
Adam Taylor's haunting score has accompanied many of The Handmaid's Tale's most shocking and disturbing moments. From the handmaids' realisation that they are about to be hanged in the first episode of this season, to June discovering she is all alone after Nick is abducted in a recent episode, Taylor's compositions have been present to make us feel as tense as could be during the panic-inducing moments.
The composer outdoes himself, however, in The Word. While there is an abundance of standout moments in the episode, June's escape is a particular highlight. As the handmaid runs to her freedom, Taylor's music adds an element of hope, while the bars of the usual uneasiness play in the background, reminding us that this could go wrong at any minute. Similarly, the triumphant piece of music that plays as Fred stares at the "Nolite Te Bastardes Carborundorum" sign that June has painted on the wall is pure perfection.
