The Haunting Of Bly Manor: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best
5. Rebecca Jessel
An unfortunate victim of the previous entry, Rebecca Jessel ultimately enters the Bly estate with selfish intentions, but that doesn't make her a villain like Quint is. Jessel wants to pursue a career in law like Henry Wingrave, and is enticed on by Peter to do as such. This results in heartstring being pulled before ultimately being severed, causing Jessel to join the widening cast of apparitions on the estate. Not quite perfectly splendid.
Yes, she has her own agenda, but Rebecca Jessel is still a victim of Quint's selfishness both as a living man and a dead one. Her devotion to such a man is the cause of her death, one of the most heart-wrenching scenes of the entire series, and it's her love of the Wingrave kids that is the catalyst for her redemption against Quint's plan.
Jessel is a tragic character, unknowingly willing to give her life to join Peter at Bly forever despite her also not agreeing to a midnight dip in the lake, which is what occurs. Her initial motivations are understandable and human, and her redemption close the end makes her character that much better.
