The Haunting Of Bly Manor: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best

The protagonist of the show and the new au pair to Flora and Miles, Danielle Clayton is a bright and bubbly young American lass hired to tutor the Wingrave kids who ultimately gets more than she bargained for when the ghosties appear. This premise sounds cliched, but Dani is developed so superbly with her own motivations and personal grievances that it's impossible to paint her as anything other than a very well-written and complicated main character.

She's running from something in the States; it's not a physical threat, more an emotional one that continues to haunts her even as the spirits of Bly show up. Dani finds solace in the residents of the estate, whether it's Owen the cook, Hannah the housekeeper, or especially Jamie the gardener.

Her resolution to help Miles and Flora transcends beyond being a simple au pair, as she transforms into something of a saviour for all the residents at Bly, living or otherwise. She is determined to push past her pain to ensure the safety and security of the Wingraves, even at the potential cost to herself. Dani may have found herself at Bly through a personal motivation to run, but her strength caused her to stay.
