One part of the Star Wars EU that people have more reliably...ya know, actually partaken in, are the video games. Fortunately, Star Wars video games have been around for a while, and they are the main way in which the EU has been built for many people.

But even then, there are several games that fell through the cracks of mainstream gaming attention. Case in point, Star Wars: Dark Forces. This FPS game featured, among many other things, a then new enemy known as the Dark Troopers. Large battle droids that can take on a Jedi with a reasonable chance at success, and pretty much chew through everything below that skill level like a dog with a plate of spaghetti.

It was only a matter of time before an idea this cool found its way into the mainline universe. This is, of course, the origin for the giant robot monstrosities that Moff Gideon whipped out as a secret weapon in the last act of Season 2.
