NBC have apparently tapped writer-producer
Bryan Fuller (Heroes, Pushing Daisies) to mastermind a remake of TV classic
The Munsters, with film director
Guillermo del Toro (Blade II, Pan's Labyrinth) supposedly keen to be involved as a producer. This in turn has led to speculation that Del Toro may get his old pal
Ron Perlman involved, to play Herman Munster. For the uninitiated, The Munsters was a family sitcom that aired from 1964 to 1966, following the exploits of the Munster family of 1313 Mockingbird Lane: father Herman (a Frankenstein's Monster), his vampire wife Lily, a vampire grandpa, their werewolf son called Eddie, and the inexplicably normal teenage daughter Marilyn. The series was broadly similar to The Addams Family -- although the joke with The Munsters was that they didn't shy away from society as weird recluses, they instead went about their daily business and just so happened to be monsters. The series has been remade numerous times: as an animated hour-long special in 1973, and as three TV Movies in 1981, 1995 and 1996. There was even a spin-off series produced in 1988 called The Munsters Today, which ran for 72 episodes until 1991. This latest remake from Bryan Fuller hasn't been
officially confirmed by NBC, but Fuller does have a development deal with the network, so it's likely he's been working on a pilot script at the very least.
