The Office: 10 Best Episodes Set Outside Of Dunder Mifflin
3. Dinner Party (S4E9)
Season four's 'Dinner Party' is something of a paradox, in that it is one of the best episodes of The Office produced, but it's also one of the hardest to watch. From beginning to end it is actually full of cringeworthy moments more than genuine laughs, but was still The Office at its best.
After tricking Jim and Pam into an evening with no plans, Michael invited his favourite couple round for a dinner party with himself and Jan, and Andy and Angela. It couldn't highlight any more just how toxic Jan and Michael's relationship was, and exactly how far Michael was willing to go for an attractive woman.
The dinner party is infamous for so many iconic Office moments, from Michael's plasma TV, to Jan listening to Hunter's CD, and of course, their argument about kids and the three vasectomies Jan forced Michael into.
There wasn't even a B story for this episode, and there didn't need to be. Steve Carrell and Melora Hardin were outstanding and carried Michael and Jan's argument so wonderfully that there really didn't need another story to offset it. It was like a car crash that you can't bear to watch, but simply can't bring yourself to look away from.
