5. A Deadpan Approach To The Ridiculous
In the real world many of the antics seen on The Office would never occur in the real world. Epic snow ball fights and quests for the Holy Grail just dont happen unfortunately. Of course in TV land anything is possible, the rules of reality dont apply and sometimes things can get a little out there, but no matter how over the top a situation becomes the good folks at The Office play it completely straight. This dead-pan approach makes even the wackiest of things seem totally normal. Boss disappeared for three months, yeah that happens all the time, co-worker gets dressed up as mythical Christmas creature Belsnickel and whips naughty employees, nothing new there. We all know none of this is happening in the real world, but yet in the world of The Office we accept it, and can even believe it. Because the cast sells it as so mundane and common place that we have to question if not only what we are witnessing might be true, but how often do things like this happen? In the real world half of what goes on at Dunder Mifflin would cause most anyone to raise an eyebrow and ask what the...? but for the folks in The Office theyve seen in all before and are un-phased by even the strangest of activities adding a whole new level of humor to dressing a giant teddy bear up in an attempt to fool your co-workers into thinking youre at your desk.
