Kevin Malone exemplified The Office’s declining years - he started out fairly grounded and believable, but became cartoonish and downright annoying. Brian Baumgartner’s performance, however, was to be cherished, giving the show some signature setpieces (the homemade chili being one of The Office’s all time funniest moments).
Since The Office concluded, Baumgartner has reverted back to life as a jobbing actor, and has been consistently working primarily on TV in the following years. Like most thespians of his status, he has run the gamut of long running crime shows, including Law & Order, Criminal Minds, and the slightly higher status The Bridge.
He has been similarly ever present in myriad mediocre sitcoms, appearing on the likes of Life In Pieces, Melissa And Joey, and The Goldbergs, as well as an amusing turn as a clown in Chuck Lorre’s underrated Kathy Bates-starring Disjointed.
Baumgartner recently launched his own Office recap podcast for Spotify, titled An Oral History Of The Office. It essentially serves the same purpose as Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s Office podcast.
