Ellie Kemper was already a huge fan of The Office when she was cast as Pam Beesly’s replacement receptionist Erin Hannon midway through the series run. She called it a dream job and that she was literally living her dream every day she was on the set with actors playing characters she was already so familiar with.
Funnily enough, Kemper had actually auditioned for a role in Greg Daniels and Michael Schur’s other sitcom, Parks And Recreation, which was just starting to cast ahead of its debut. They liked her audition but didn’t quite feel she was right and instead asked her back to audition for the role of Erin Hannon in The Office and the rest was history.
Kemper’s portrayal of Erin Hannon ended up being the complete opposite of what Jenna Fischer did with Pam. Where Pam was sarcastic and unhappy with her career, Erin adored being a receptionist and it was impossible not to fall in love with her optimism and positivity.
