The Simpsons: 10 Awesome Things You Forgot Ever Happened

2. Predicting The Future - Various Episodes

Viewerships for The Simpsons may not be what it once was but that hasn't stopped people from discussing the show recently due to its apparent ability to predict the future.

In a 1998 episode, Disney bought 20th Century Fox, nearly two decades before this decision became a reality. The Simpsons Movie showed the NSA spying on America six years before this was publicly exposed. The episode, Bart to the Future, mentioned Donald Trump becoming the US president 18 years before he was elected.

Of course, many of these "predictions" are just coincidences. Considering The Simpsons has been on the air for 33 years, it's not too farfetched that a few gags would have some similarities to the real world.

However, some parallels are so specific, it's genuinely creepy. In the episode, Elementary School Musical, Milhouse says he thinks Bengt R. Holmstrom will win a Nobel Prize in Economics. Six years later, that's exactly what happened.

TIME Magazine wrote an article on how Homer Simpson predicted the existence of the Higgs-boson 14 years before this particle was discovered.

Before Siegfried and Roy were attacked by their tiger, Michelangelo's Davis was censored, and three-eyed fish was discovered beside a nuclear power plant, The Simpsons did it.

In Lisa the Greek, Lisa predicted the Redskins would win the Super Bowl three days before they did. When the episode was re-aired the following year, the studio had the actress, Yeardley Smith, redub her lines so Lisa said the Cowboys would be the winners. Once again, she was correct. Two years later, Lisa's lines were redubbed, this time stating the 49ers would emerge triumphant. For the third time in a row, she was right.
